OVERALL 4.98/5
Slightly underrated by a half-star. A near 50:50 that feels like it, potent and great for alleviation of mental-anything and pain.
GENETICS———————————————————————————————————————
Take a deep breath for this one. You would not believe the insane web of genetics and unsurity that goes back with this, the only thing we can be certain of is: diesel & chem. The internet says its parents are Sour Diesel Bx3 [male?] and Headband which makes total sense when you read about its parents and feel its effects, it’s like Cali Sour Diesel is a prince in GoT. Headband is a 55% indica, itself a cross of Master Kush, OG Kush and Sour Diesel, “highly euphoric and uplifting cerebral high, makes the head foggy.” Sour Diesel has a full on drama-lined lineage where even its name is derived from its baggage – it was dubbed “the strain the launched 1,000 rifts” because it destroyed friendships and business partners alike when during its inception and through the 90’s it was just that good, a product of envy. Sour Diesel is a pure sativa, a cross of Chemdawg 91 X Super Skunk. Let me make this utterly clear: Sour Diesel, the best original cut from a guy named “AJ”, is the most expensive weed on the planet: in 2010 in NYC it was selling for on average $10,000 per pound. Yeah, you read that right. “If you bought ten $100 jars, you would get one jar free; so that’s 22 grams for $1,000. We were paying our growers in New York City around $8,000 a pound. If you wholesaled it, you’d be lucky to get it for $9,600 a pound, but most people paid about $10,600. AJ’s strain and his grow technique have been what set the precedence for expensive bud.” With a lot of knock-offs it became watered down, a cliche. ““You can grow it ten different ways and produce ten different products,” says AJ, who’s spent the past couple decades perfecting the process. “I gave it out to a lot of people who would produce something that was nice and everything, but just wasn’t all there.”
From Cannasos: “California Sour Diesel cannabis strain gives a strong cerebral and body high. You can be talkative, creative and energized. Eventually the body feels a gentle buzz that slowly becomes heavy. It can easily couch lock.” Now I did say it didn’t have much a “cerebral” but it does; just more specifically it’s a little behind the body high and it’s also fine-tuned and very enjoyable.
EFFECTS———————————————————————————————————-
Effects hit quickly and get stronger over a few minutes, I’m hit with a pleasantly strong indica-leaning profile, feels like a 60%-70% indica. I really dig it. A very strong hybrid, similar to Death Bubba and GG4, stout greens that’ll couch-lock if going over a doob to yourself. Not much a cerebral in apparentness, there’s more an upliftment without euphoric effect. Instead of feeling “high” I feel foremost “baked” and then “a little high”. My thoughts aren’t changed but my mood is lifted. Not a lot of info on this, I’ll wing an effects chart as relaxed-happy-uplifted-creative-talkative-euphoric-sleepy. It does feel a tad hazy and unfocused, somewhere in between totally focused and not, it blends well with the high and it’s really relaxing, feels a little spaced out but still “me”. Not a lot of introspection, it feels like it’d make any activity better. I’m a big fan!
SMELL/TASTE——————————————————————————————————————
Wow on taste! I breath the smoke in and out and force air out of my nose like a pupper giving confirmation to get a good sense of its profile and I’d have to put this at 2nd favourite taste of all time. I believe I mentioned another on here (probably Strawberry Diesel) but that would have to be 3rd on taste. Blueberry still my favourite, I haven’t had a strain taste this great in a long time. I knew its profile of diesel-pepper-tar would be a me-thing. I love a bright diesel. WD has been on a big roll with new favourited strains that were first-timers for me. I purposefully hucked out a little smoke, a small intentional cough to really get a hard taste for it. It’s completely accurate as diesel-pepper-tar but even the pepper is in equal amount/mixes together with the diesel. First whiff gives an extremely clean and bright citrus-type that quickly buckles into a classic diesel, a gasoline-like smell, combined with a nearing-equally smelly pepper. It’s just an interesting mix, something I’ve never seen. Their Strawberry Diesel smells better and similar (more pungent) but this tastes better. It isn’t so much a tar taste as citusy diesel & pepper. It’s fairly smooth, not quite a quad – the diesel/tar, those dark notes hold a little longer and seems to want to stick around. I think its own genetics are holding it back from being a quad. Yes, it smokes easily and smooth but there’s something resiny still in my throat afterwards. Given the profile of diesel and tar I’m not surprized, Strawberry Diesel and some other diesels also do this to me.
LOOKS—————————————————————————————————————————
As pictured! Grinds up nicely, not into a powder but little fluffy pieces, zero leaf. Interestingly it’s soft to the touch almost like ground up sage. It’s not quite velvety, it’s how the pieces stack up against each other and stuff, maybe it’s the new grinder I used but it feels nice and soft.

Came back to review it again after a 4:30am morning toke from a small order but at $165/oz it’s quite a value given its overall effect of being happy-stoney, 1-bowl potency and its smell is one of the noicest weed can have, it’s very clean smelling. Off the top of my head this, Maui Wowie at $160 and Blueberry at $180 is exactly where my eyes land for a go-to price range where I can get either one and not wonder if I’d have liked the different strain more even though they’re all very different.
Before I looked at my last review I was like “this’d be good for pain..”, which is what my last review said. Now Leafly says it smells like pepper-pungent-blue cheese, which is accurate too lol but let me be clear on the blue-cheese. There’s a whole aura of a cheese but it’s unlike a UK-cheese strain, it doesn’t smell like the plant sweated all over the place, it’s much more bright and nearing the lower notes of actual lemons with a bunch of diesel/chem notes thrown in. It’s got so many layers in its scent that you could even say it’s rounded off by a slightly minty smell as well as a blue cheese type of scent without the oldness aspect that many hate about blue cheese. It smells extremely pungent and is high-end smelling, like a perfect-weed smell. Although the $160 Maui Wowie is outright most pungent to me this C.S.D. is at 3rd? place behind Strawberry Diesel [and Blueberry?] for best actual scent profile. It doesn’t get much better. It’s like OG Kush but less pine, more lemon.
It’s also heavier in the eyes which makes me think it’d be good for glaucoma but it’s not sleepy (to me). While I feel alert I’m also on a laugh train internally where my thoughts have been completely lifted above the clouds. Would be great for depression & PTSD. It works over your mind with a slight haze that doesn’t feel uncomfortable, rather the opposite. If a strong couch-locky indica gives you a “derpy smile” this is for a “derpy smile on the go”. If you were in either physical or mental pain this would seemingly haze the pain and separate the “you” into a more positive atmosphere, almost forced even, it’s hard to not just sit and feel happier after smoking a bowl or two. I bet it’d help for stress headaches too – with some strains I’ll smoke a huge bowl and get a lower back of my head tension that can develop into a headache later but this feels like it does the exact opposite and neutralizes some tension in my head & neck because I didn’t get any immediacy coughing, only after I waited 20 seconds after I blew smoke out and the coughing were 2 little mild one’s.
It think it’s priced at $165 because of its hybridness – it doesn’t knock you on your ass indica-wise nor does it give this rocking cerebral sativa-wise and the potency can seem underrated because of its effects profile that really sticks to being 50% happy-uplifted and then a halved but equal assortment of creative/energetic/euphoric/relaxed/?. I imagine someone NOT wanting to smoke but having it suggested to them for depression ETC; this is where I’d start them, something that’d tell them “hey, you’re gonna get high here but it’s gonna be pretty forgiving… and happy.” It’s heavily medicinally focused to forcing happiness… it’s awesome. It’s not a “Charlotte’s Web” heaven-send towards physical medication… but for mental, yeah, for not giving a fuck, it’s a mood & confidence booster. Mental comfort without being sativa-zapped or indica-locked yet it’s heady/can feel it swooshing in my head numbing stuff, definitely a hybrid that if it were a little more potent it’d be Canada’s ‘next biggest strain’ etc. The only thing it doesn’t have is a huge euphoria but it’s still there too. All of this only makes me wonder what the hell Sour Diesel feels like since it were so expensive – is it the miracle for depression or is this?
Not that it’s totally accurate but I would have guessed this were either a 65 indica or sativa, from either side I’ve had only twice 65%-sativa’s (AK47 & ?) and only once a 65%-indica (also ?). Thing is, both of those 65’s made me laugh a lot and made me feel really calm… they also sparkled the same visually. Apparently it’s a 60/40 indica. Close enough – my point is I’ve had enough strains by now that tells me the 80’s, 70’s and 60’s actually feel much more distinct from 85’s, 75’s and 65’s listed, being extremely unique.
After hooting another bowl……. this tastes like a “foreign grapefruit” that stops being tasty before it gets too-bitter. Half sweet and if smoked in a joint it’d be a bit of a flavour train. It’s got really nice orange hairs and it’s chalk full of dusty crystals that are well developed… and it’s still busting up really nice looking lol. A dense-velvety cross.
Bet it’d be a good choice for chemo patients too – along with White Widow and some other strains I’ve mentioned it seems to have this internal thing with its haze/brain effect where it’d make you feel more balanced, less sea-sick if that is a thing and hungrier all at once. Since it’s a 60/40 hybrid with very comforting mental effects [with its stone] you almost couldn’t smoke too much of this which can be a really good thing if you don’t originally use cannabis and now have the requirement to.
Feels like a frontal lobe massage by a trained chi master. For medicinal use I’d press this into rosin, hell yes.

For me any diesel will fuel me for the day. This one in particular is so great for daytime smoke when you have a lot to do. It keeps me on track to still accomplish almost everything on my to-do list and without even having to check that list. It works so well for my adhd that I am able to not only stay focused and motivated but to remeber eveyrthing that needs to be done without all the reminders I would normally have to set myself. When those reminders come in I would have already accomplished gthe task. love it

We would also recommend this strain for a perfect daytime smoke to give you a morning boost! Or motivate you to complete everything you have planned for the day. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on our Cali Oj.

It took me a while to really appreciate this strain, but when I got used to the effects I fell in love !
As someone who is recently more apt to use sativa dominate strains, I wasn’t sure how it would go! I’ve been working on 14 grams of it for over a month now and if you’re sensitive to sativa strains, a little goes a long way! You do not need to smoke many bowls to feel it’s effects. I’m pleased with it and enjoy the strain .

That is great to hear you enjoy Cali OJ after trying it out. We agree that you definitely only need a little bit to feel it’s beneficial effects!
